Cleaning House: Understanding Intensive EMDR Therapy

This 6 credit EMDRIA Approved Advanced Topics Course is provided in partnership with Institute for Creative Mindfulness (ICM) (#10002-107) and Adam O’Brien.

Abstract: Current trends in EMDR Therapy have brought about the use of longer and more intensive sessions. This advanced topics course will review current research on these types of sessions and help provide an individualized systematic approach to delivering EMDR in this format. Simple to more complex client cases will be highlighted.

Description: This advanced topics course offers the basic information about how to integrate Intensive EMDR Therapy into one’s clinical practice. Participants will create a personalized approach to delivering effective treatment to a wide range of clients in an even wider range of clinical presentations. Establishing a “Meeting Area”, Addressing Toxic Shame, Bulk Flash within Ego State Therapy, and targeting keystone traumas will be highlighted. The emerging case conceptualization (Addiction as Dissociation) will be provided to highlight how it help clients heal EMDR, within the 8-Phase Protocol. Support and treatment insights for application of model and for working with difficult cases are provided throughout the training. The presentation is fully compliant with the Standard 8-Phase Protocol and the Adaptive Informational Processing Model (AIP) as written by Dr. Francine Shapiro. This trainings has to be attended in person.

Learning Objectives:?

  • (1) To provide an overview of the history of and current uses of intensive therapy.?
  • (2) To explore different client presentations in relation to trauma history and how to assess and evaluate for dissociation within the intensive therapy.
  • (3) To introduce intensive format within the 8-phase protocol, AIP model, and Ego State Therapy.
  • (4) To incorporate and personalize the participants intensive model into their practice.

The Institute for Creative Mindfulness (ICM). ICM is an approved EMDRIA credit provider and an approved sponsor of CEs for psychologists. *Minimum of 6 is needed for this training to run. I will collect names of people willing to sign up and then once we have the 6, I will send out a registration link.

Adam O’Brien LMHC, CASAC is an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist, Approved Consultant, and EMDR trainer. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in Addiction Studies. He specializes in providing these trauma resolution therapies and trauma-focused treatment for a variety of populations. He is certified in Brainspotting, trained in Progressive Counting, Neurofeedback, and Deep Brain Reorienting. For the last 6 years, Adam has been utilizing EMDR Therapy in an intensive format on a weekly basis.
